My Life on 35mm #15 | Kodak Gold 200, July 2019
It’s been a while huh?
I’ve had a few rolls scanned and ready to go for months, but the lead up to Christmas is always a bit busy so they’ve sat on my hard drive waiting for me to have enough time to do a layout for them.
We’re finally through the worst of it now (hello holidays!), and with Christmas around the corner I have time to write again!
Now let’s jump back to when this roll was shot. Over this period I started shooting more and more in the span of a day rather than over a week or two, which has resulted in me crafting images more than just purely documenting my life. It’s been really nice having something to take me out of the house for a walk, but also to actively do a proper shoot with my film camera just for me as opposed to doing a shoot for work. I’m really beginning to understand why personal projects are so important. As a creative it helps a lot to keep your brain working, helping to inspire you and give you new ideas. For this especially, even just the walk outside is enough.
For this one in particular I went to visit my friend Grace Lai at Auckland Museum, who is the clever brain behind the now concluded ‘Carried Away’ exhibition. We had gone shooting together a few months prior to capture portraits to give her some more creative options to use for all the media associated with the launch, and I asked if she would give me the grand tour once it opened up. After the grand tour, another shoot (this time in the exhibition itself), and a quick catch up over coffee, I took myself for a wander around the domain and Winter Gardens, camera in tow.
